Former Insurance Commissioner Pogue Passes Away

A.W. “Woody” Pogue, former Texas Commissioner of Insurance, passed away on July 15, 2018, at the age of 79.

After graduating from Texas A&I (now Texas A&M-Kingsville) with a degree in mathematics, Pogue taught mathematics and was a high school football coach. He joined the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) in 1969 as an examiner in the Actuary division and served as Commissioner from 1989-1991. Following his time at TDI, Pogue joined law firm Akin Gump, and later Gardere Wynne Sewell as a lobbyist.

At Pogue’s request, no services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to First Baptist Church Buda, 104 S. San Marcos Street, Buda, TX 78610, or to a charity of your choice.
