The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) has kicked off its 14th annual Hurricane Tour along the Texas coast. Representatives from the National Weather Service, Texas Department of Insurance, Institute for Business & Home Safety, and insurance agents from independent agencies and State Farm will join ICT to bring the message that Texans must take steps to prepare for severe weather and minimize property damage.

At the event, homeowners will receive information on safety, home preparedness tips, hurricane forecasts, recent legislation, and available insurance coverages. According to ICT, Texas insurance carriers write more than 55% of windstorm policies along the Texas coast, but residents may also procure coverage through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA). Flood insurance and its availability through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) will also be discussed.

The tour began in Beaumont on August 25, 2019, which marked the second anniversary of Hurricane Harvey’s landfall. It will end in Brownsville on August 29, 2019. Additional resources and safety tips can be found on the ICT website.
