Hamilton Appointed Public Counsel for OPIC

Melissa Hamilton, Director of Government Relations for the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), has been named public counsel for the Office of Public Insurance Counsel (OPIC) by Gov. Greg Abbott. Hamilton will begin her new position on January 2, 2018, with a term set through February 1, 2019.

OPIC is an independent state agency that represents consumer interests in insurance matters. The organization also advocates on behalf of consumers before TDI and works with the Texas Legislature to create laws that benefit Texans.

Hamilton joined TDI in 2012, and has been with the organization through three state legislative sessions. Prior to her role in Government Relations, she served as Assistant General Counsel for Nationwide Insurance and Staff Counsel for former Texas State Sen. Glenn Hegar.
