Gov. Abbott Reappoints Hamilton, Brown

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Melissa Hamilton as Public Counsel for the Office of Public Insurance Counsel (OPIC). Hamilton was first appointed by Gov. Abbott in December 2017 and began serving has Public Counsel on January 2, 2018. Her new term will expire on February 1, 2021.

Prior to joining OPIC, Hamilton was Director of Government Relations for the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI).

OPIC was created to represent the interests of Texas consumers in insurance matters. The organization reviews insurance rates and rules, makes recommendations and provides testimony for the Texas Legislature, and provides consumer education and outreach.

Cassie Brown has also been reappointed as Commissioner of Workers’ Compensation at TDI, with a term to expire on February 1, 2021. Brown was first appointed to the role in June of 2018. Prior to her appointment, she served as a deputy commissioner for Regulatory Policy at TDI.
