A survey conducted by the world’s largest publicly traded property and casualty insurance company, Chubb, found Americans working from home during the pandemic to remain productive by working the same or more hours during the work week. Additionally, Chubb found a 74% majority of individuals who prefer to work from home at higher rate when compared to the past.

However, due to COVID-19, there has been an ongoing issue for Americans when trying to balance work and home life. Chubb’s survey received responses from 1,202 Americans between the ages of 20 to 65 who began working from home due to the pandemic. Below are a few key findings from the survey.

  • Maintaining work/life balance at home can be difficult
    • While many are able to conduct normal work hours without issue, other individuals find that pets, roommates, and/or family pose as a distraction when working from home.
    • In a minority response of 43%, workers are able to find a balance between work and home life.

  • Managing lifestyle changes
    • Americans are able to continue doing activities they enjoy while working from home. This includes watching TV, reading, exercising, and playing games.

  • Individuals are eating more at home
    • The survey finds Americans eating more while working from home with little dieting involved. Only about 5% of responses stated they are actually eating less while at home.
    • Additionally, there has been an increase in snacking while at home or working from home.

Additional key findings and full survey report can be found here. Chubb hopes this survey aids workers and employers in building awareness to further understand the risks and changes working from home can bring.

Although the pandemic has brought lifestyle changes for so many companies and individuals, the industry has shown to stride and persevere in a time of uncertainty. Given the rapid change and circumstances to work from home, many have adjusted their work environment by managing productivity within their work week. Because of this, the industry may continue to see a shift in work style within the near future.
